Courthouse Access Cards

Lawyers, paralegals, and articling student members in good standing with valid CCLA memberships may be eligible to apply for courthouse access cards. Please remember that courthouse access cards are issued at the discretion of courthouse security. These cards are not for use by friends, family, coworkers or any individual aside from the designated card holder. Cards that are used improperly may be deactivated and revoked. Proof of valid CCLA membership will be required to process applications.

Please note the following consequences for improper use of courthouse access cards:

Should anyone who has a registered access pass, use the access pass of another registered user, the following consequences shall be imposed:

a) First incident: conversation with the S/Sgt of Court Security, or their designate, regarding the circumstances surrounding the breach, and a written warning to both parties.

b) Second incident: Suspension of both passes for a 30 day period, without refund.

c) Third incident: Suspension of both passes for a 6 month period, without refund.

Should any other person, who does not have a registered access pass, use the pass of a registered user, the following consequences shall be imposed:

a) First incident: conversation with S/Sgt. of Court Security, or their designate, regarding the circumstances that surrounded the breach, with penalty to be determined based on severity of the breach.

b) Second incident: immediate suspension of access pass for a period of one year, without refund of any portion already paid.

c) Third incident: life time suspension, without refund of any portion already paid.

*Section B does not apply in the cases of a pass that has been lost or stolen and has been used by a person unknown to the cardholder.

The Ministry of the Attorney General reserves the right to suspend or permanently disable security passes for individuals found to be in violation of these policies, at the Ministry’s sole discretion.

In order to apply for a new courthouse access card, eligible members will need to appear in person at the security office by the main entrance of the courthouse to submit your application and have your picture taken. Applications are processed only between 8:00 and 10:00AM, Monday through Friday. Please remember to bring your CCLA digital member card or a receipt for payment of 2025 membership dues, as well as photo identification and a completed application form, which can be found at this link. This form must also be completed by current access card holders to maintain their access credentials. Application forms are also available at the security office or the CCLA offices. Please bear in mind that it may take 3-5 business days for security to be notified of your CCLA membership renewal, as they are sent a weekly list.
