Paralegal Position Added to CCLA’s Board of Trustees

April 27, 2021
The CCLA is pleased to announce that its bylaws have been amended to create a paralegal position on its Board of Trustees.

CCLA President Rosalind Conway noted that the change was “strongly supported” by the CCLA membership, which is “proud to count paralegals amongst our members”.

Rick Haga, CCLA’s Executive Director, observed that the CCLA has "long recognized the importance of paralegals in the legal community”. Haga added that the CCLA’s Paralegal Education and Advocacy Committee prepared “very strong submissions” for the CCLA’s consultation papers on the Ontario government’s budgets.

Conway stated that the CCLA’s paralegals have made important contributions to the Ottawa legal community, noting that “Paralegal Advocacy Day has been highly successful and is a tribute to our Paralegal Education and Advocacy Committee.”

Paula Callaghan, the Chair of the Paralegal Education and Advocacy Committee, stated that paralegals in Ottawa are “very excited with this important step forward in the recognition of paralegals being an integral part of the legal community.” She says that the bylaw change reflects the “collegial and inclusive qualities of the CCLA and the Bar in Ottawa”.

The new paralegal Trustee position will be filled at the CCLA's next Board of Trustees election, scheduled for February of 2022.
