Message from the President

July 26, 2016

I am writing to alert our CCLA membership to two terrific opportunities arising from the CBA annual convention taking place in Ottawa August 12-14th.

First, the CBA is offering CCLA members a special discount of $300 off the registration fee. If you are interested in attending, you can register here and enter code AM2016EB. The CBA has a terrific agenda planned, including:

  • An address from the Chief Justice of Canada and the new Federal Minister of Justice.
  • A featured speaker line-up of thought leaders and including Don Bayne, Harley Finkelstein and Joe Frasca from Shopify, lawyer-psychologist Dr. Larry Richard and leadership expert Dr. JP Pawliw-Fry.
  • A conference theme centered around building better lawyers – through streams on big picture influences in the profession, skills for day-day practice and efficiency and wellness for you as the individual.
  • Smaller-setting, interactive learning opportunities with your choice of 15 accredited professional development sessions.
  • An up-close and personal concert with Juno award winning Sam Roberts

Second, the CBA conference is a great networking opportunity and one of the best events at every CBA conference is the At Home Dinners, where members of the local Bar open their homes to delegates for an evening of good food and conversation. It is a terrific opportunity to meet other lawyers from other parts of the country (and it’s good for business development!).

The CCLA has assured the CBA that we can find a sufficient number of members willing to host an At-Home Dinner on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Let’s show them the collegiality that the CCLA is known for!

If you are interested in hosting an At-Home Dinner, please complete the attached the attached form [link to: form] and email it to Sonia Morin at the CCLA: smorin@ccla-abcc.ca. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes for a great summer!
