Family Law Town Hall

The Family Bench and Bar Committee will be
hosting a Town Hall on April 20, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jury
Assembly Room at 161 Elgin Street, Ottawa, and the family bar is invited and
encouraged to attend. To be addressed
are the following: - Current
practice issues and changes to the local practices in Ottawa for family
law;
- The implementation
of the new First Court Date practice and procedure;
- The new
Family Court Calendar;
- An update
on the Domestic Violence Project;
- Representation
in Family Court;
- The
Supervised Access Centre Exchange hours;
- Consent
of the LAJ is not required for adjournment of Family Settlement
Conferences on consent; and
- The
family bar’s feedback on the initiative by the Ministry of the Attorney
General on how to improve the accessibility of family law services in the
Province of Ontario. Justice
Bonkalo will lead the Family Law Review to consider whether a broader
range of legal services providers such as paralegals, law clerks and
students should be allowed to handle certain family law matters.
