Seamless Access to Justice in French Pilot Project at the Ottawa Courthouse
June 9, 2015
The
County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA) is pleased to support the Seamless
Access to Justice in French Pilot Project at the Ottawa Courthouse that was
recently launched. This is an extremely important project that will facilitate
and improve access to legal services in French by the public. I would like to
share a number of key highlights with respect to this pilot project:
- The pilot will last at least one year, and responds to
several recommendations made by the French Language Services Bench and Bar
Advisory Committee in its 2012 Access to Justice in French report. The
pilot project aims to address any challenges for French-speaking litigants,
lawyers and others using the Ontario court system in Ottawa.
- This pilot project serves as an important
reminder of our obligation, under the Rules of professional conduct, to advise
clients of the French language rights relating to their matters.
- Please click on this link to the News Release for
more details.
The
CCLA is a strong supporter of the this important pilot project and I encourage
all members and partners within the legal community to embrace and support the
project as well.
Thank
you.
Steven Gaon, President.
