Solicitor Bencher Campaign 2015 - An Important Message

The CCLA Board of Trustees has been working closely with the CCLA Real Estate Lawyers Committee and the County and District Law Presidents Association ("CDLPA") on issues of concern to the Real Estate Bar across the Province. One of many issues highlighted by our discussions is the dramatic, and chronic, under-representation of solicitors in Convocation. Presently, of 40 elected lawyer Benchers, only four are solicitors and at least one of those solicitors is at their "term limit" for service and not eligible to run again. While Convocation deals with complex matters affecting the solicitor bar, front-line solicitor representation is limited to just these four voices. Solicitors need to have stronger representation in the next Convocation.

The next Bencher Election is April 30, 2015 and the Real Estate Lawyers Committee wants to encourage more qualified and interested solicitors to put their names forward as Bencher Candidates.
