Alternative Business Structures (ABS) Working Group
November 6, 2014
The CCLA
would like to update the legal community on the Alternative Business Structures
(ABS) Working Group struck in 2012 by the Law Society of Upper Canada to
consider developments regarding alternative legal service delivery models and
structures across the globe.
The CCLA has been monitoring the Law Society’s approach to ABS closely and has
convened a working group of its own to be headed by Trustee Allison Klymyshyn.
The CCLA is looking to include representatives from all major practice areas to
work with Allison to review this issue.
Documents addressing ABS have been issued by the Law Society. The documents are
available for your information and review at the following links: The Law Society is
inviting formal written submissions in response to the September ABS Report by
December 31, 2014 and from there intends to embark on a formal consultation
process in 2015. The CCLA is also working closely with the County and Districts
Law Presidents Association (CDLPA) and will monitor what CDLPA does in response
to the Law Society’s invitation for submissions. Our Board of Trustees will
determine what if any response it will submit by the December 31st deadline. If you are interested in participating in the ABS Working Group, please contact
Allison Klymyshyn by no later than end of the day November 14, 2014 at aklymyshyn@cavanagh.ca.
The ABS Working Group will choose additional team members with an eye towards
ensuring that a variety of practice areas are represented in this initial
response.
Thank you.
