We fulfill our mandate by working closely with frontline community workers to develop their capacity to provide appropriate legal support, legal information, and legal referrals to clients within these target populations.  <br /><br /><strong>Ottawa Wills Project:</strong> The Ottawa Wills Project is a Connecting Ottawa project that provides free wills and powers of attorney documents to low-income vulnerable individuals in Ottawa by way of “clinics” offered three times per year.  Through this collaborative community project, eligible clients, referred by local social service workers/agencies, are connected with a legal team consisting of a pro-bono lawyer and a law student, who work together to draft and complete the clients’ final, executed estate documents. Social service workers play a vital role in liaising with the project and supporting their clients. This role is ideal for a confident, practical advocate who enjoys working closely with business clients, managing sophisticated disputes, and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team.<br /><br /><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Manage litigation files from initial assessment through resolution, including pleadings, discoveries, motions, mediations, arbitrations, settlements, and trial preparation.<br /></li><li>Provide strategic, practical advice to business clients on litigation risk, dispute resolution options, and case strategy.<br /></li><li>Draft high-quality pleadings, motion materials, briefs, and other court or tribunal documents.<br /></li><li>Appear before courts, tribunals, mediators, and arbitrators, as appropriate.<br /></li><li>Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive, business-minded service.<br /></li><li>Work closely with colleagues across the firm to deliver practical, coordinated advice.<br /></li><li>Collaborate with lawyers, students and legal support staff and contribute to a collegial team environment.<br /></li><li>Contribute to practice development and client growth initiatives, where appropriate.</li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited law school.<br /></li><li>Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.<br /></li><li>Minimum 5 years of litigation experience, ideally with significant exposure to commercial disputes.<br /></li><li>Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation matters with a high degree of independence.<br /></li><li>Excellent drafting, advocacy, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.<br /></li><li>Strong interpersonal and client relationship skills.<br /></li><li>Sound judgment, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.<br /></li><li>Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced practice.<br /></li><li>Experience supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a collaborative practice is an asset.<br /></li><li>Fluency in English is required; French-English bilingualism is an asset.<br /></li></ul><p><strong>What We Offer:</strong></p><ul><li>Compensation range: starting at $120,000, commensurate with experience, together with benefits and eligibility for a discretionary bonus.<br /></li><li>Meaningful file responsibility and direct client contact, and opportunities to manage sophisticated commercial disputes.<br /></li><li>Collaboration with experienced litigation counsel and practical support for senior lateral integration.<br /></li><li>A collegial, supportive team environment.<br /></li><li>Opportunities for professional growth and long-term career development.</li></ul><p><strong>How to Apply:<br /></strong>This posting is for an existing vacancy.
