CCLA Renovations Service Interruptions and Changes

November 23, 2017

We are incredibly excited to announce that renovations on the CCLA Library and Barristers' Lounge will be starting soon! During the next year, we will be transforming these spaces into a beautiful and functional library, lounge, and multi-purpose room.

In the lead-up to the renovation, and then continuing through construction, it will be necessary to alter the services we provide. All times indicated below are approximate; we will continue to update the community with the most up-to-date information both on our website and through email.

Pre-Renovation (December 2017)

Library: There will be no library services available for the month of December. This includes computers and photocopiers, as well as access to our print and electronic resources, or any assistance from the CCLA library staff. The doors to the library will be locked. Please make alternate arrangements during this period for photocopying, faxing, and printing services. For tips and suggestions on how to carry out your legal research, please visit this post on our library blog. We regret the inconvenience this may cause, but it is necessary for the safe and timely preparation of the library for construction work.

WiFi in the Courthouse will continue to run throughout the renovations. We will make every attempt to schedule disruptions to the service (required to move equipment) to outside of court business hours.

During December, we will also be disposing of furniture and other office items that will no longer be needed by the CCLA - please stay tuned for details on this.

Lounge: Lounge space, including the Robing Rooms, will be largely undisrupted during this period. Access to the Robing Rooms will be available through all phases of the renovations.

Events: All scheduled events for December will take place as planned.  Events staff will be available via email (events@ccla-abcc.ca) and phone (613-233-7386 ext. 228 or ext. 223) during December to assist with any questions.

Membership and Association Services: Staff will be available via email (membership@ccla-abcc.ca) and phone (613-233-7386 ext. 229) during December to assist with any membership services, including CCLA membership renewal. In-person assistance with membership renewals will be available by appointment only.

Bill payments to the CCLA cannot be made in-person during the month of December. You can continue to pay online, or by cheque sent through the mail.

The CCLA Newsletter, Marketplace, and Career Centre will continue to run as scheduled during all phases of the renovations.

Renovation Phase One (Approximately January 2018 - July 2018)

Library: Library services will be available on-site starting January 2, 2018. The new location for library staff will be in the offices near the Barristers' Lounge. A limited amount of print texts will be on site. Three public computers, one photocopier/printer, and a fax machine will be available. During this time, there will be NO access to the copier for members of the public or court runners. There will also be no access to the area that is currently the bulk of the library space. The doors to the library that are across from Courtroom 23 will be inaccessible – please enter through the lounge doors only. If you do not have the code to the lounge door, please contact us at library@ccla-abcc.ca or 613-233-7386 ext. 220.

As of January 2018, we will be moving to a cashless system at the CCLA. Photocopies, printing, faxes, and all other CCLA fees must now be paid by debit, cheque, or credit (Visa, Mastercard, American Express). We will still offer accounts to local firms and offices for invoicing library fees. If your firm does not have an account but would like to set one up, please contact our Finance Administrator Wanda Walters at wwalters@ccla-abcc.ca

Lounge: Lounge space will be much as it is now during this phase of the renovation, with the exception of several bookshelves that will be installed. Due to the shelving, it will no longer be suitable for large group meetings.

Events: All scheduled events will take place as planned. Events staff will only be on-site on Mondays, beginning Monday, January 15, 2018 to answer any inquiries. Please contact events@ccla-abcc.ca for any matters related to CCLA events.

Membership and Association Services: Membership staff will be on site Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30, to assist with matters related to membership, such as membership cards and locker rentals.

Payments to the CCLA can be made online, by cheque through the mail, or in person via cheque, credit, or debit. There will be no cash accepted for bill payments.

Renovation Phase Two (Approximately August 2018 – January 2019)

Library: Library services will remain on-site in Phase Two, moving to the area approximately where the library services are located now. Full access to public computers will be available, with one photocopier/printer and a fax machine.

Lounge: There will be no lounge space available during Phase Two. Storage for overcoats will be available in the Barristers' Robing Rooms, which will remain accessible throughout construction. There will also be a small coat closet available in the Library.

Events: All scheduled events will take place as planned. Events staff will not be on-site to answer any enquiries or take payment.
