    MISSION STATEMENT

    The Objectives Of The County Of Carleton Law Association Are: To Advance The Interests Of Its Members And Promote The Administration Of Justice By:

    • Providing an accessible, quality library to its members
    • Providing quality and affordable continuing legal education programmes to Ottawa and Eastern Ontario lawyers
    • Advancing the interests of its members in the practice of law
    • Promoting liaison among its members, the Judiciary, and the government of the day
    • Providing guidance and leadership to its members in the challenges facing the profession
    • Promoting collegiality among its members in the interests of the profession

    Strategic Framework & Initiatives

    In 2008, new Executive Director Rick Haga, gathered with the Board of Trustees to review the framework for the strategic plan to take the Association and its members securely into the future.  Based on the CCLA’s mission statement above, the following strategic initiatives and priorities were identified:

    Focus on:

    • Using improved methods of technology to provide information to members.
    • Strengthening existing CLE, providing new CLE, and investigating new delivery methods.
    • Communications/PR/Outreach by developing a communications strategy to members and improving the image of lawyers in the community.
    • Member-Only Privileges and enhancing the attractiveness of CCLA membership by providing value-added programmes and services to lawyers.
    • Strengthening networking opportunities for members.
    • Determining the reason female lawyers in Ottawa are leaving the profession in numbers greater than men, and formulating a strategy for retaining more women in the profession.
