OJEN Classroom Visits Program Request for Lawyer Volunteers

Posted By Administration, January 5, 2018

Ontario Justice Education Network: Classroom Visit Requests!

The Ontario Justice Education Network (OJEN) is a charitable not-for-profit, non-governmental organization with a province-wide mandate. We develop innovative educational tools that introduce young people to the justice system, help them understand the law, and build their legal capability. We work to help prepare young people to manage the legal aspects of problems that arise in their own lives.

One program that OJEN helps coordinate and facilitate is that of Classroom Visits. Here, lawyers and volunteers from the legal sector are a part of a collaborative program wherein they visit classes/students at their schools throughout Ontario to speak about their experiences. I am reaching out to the Carleton County Law Association because OJEN has received a request from three schools in Carleton County.

OJEN Classroom Visit Requests:
1: School: St. Thomas Aquinas High School
Location: 1211 S Russell Rd, Russell, ON K4R 1E5
Teacher: Rob.D'
Visit date (pick ONE): Anytime until mid-January. The course runs Mon-Fri 8:15AM-9:30AM (and every other week it runs in the afternoon between 12:00PM and 1:05PM); talk can be anywhere between 30 and 70 minutes, Ideal dates include: January 9th, 12th, or 17th.
Details: Requesting a crown lawyer or a labour law lawyer.

2: School: South Carleton High School
Location: 3673 McBean St, Richmond, ON K0A 2Z0
Teacher: Thomas Boyce
Visit date (pick ONE): Jan 8th - Jan 19th
Details: Requesting a civil lawyer.

3: School: West Carleton Secondary School
Location: 3088 Dunrobin Rd, Dunrobin, ON K0A 1T0
Teacher: Braden Hutchinson
Visit date (pick ONE): Any time before the end of January 2018.
Details: This semester wraps at the end of January. I would love to have a paralegal in before then to talk to the class. There are many students interested in the law, but are looking for avenues other than police officers/lawyers. I currently have two law classes in the morning that run, collectively, from 8:00am-10:45am. Thus, I am hoping to secure someone for two periods on the same day. Next semester, I have one law class, and would love to have a paralegal present then as well. However, we can set up this at a later date if that is more convenient. To clarify – I am looking for a paralegal and a civil lawyer to visit my classroom and that does not have to be on the same day (up to the volunteer’s schedule).

Interested volunteers can contact me directly at with the visit # you are interested in doing and your preferred date.

I look forward to hearing from interested volunteers!
