A top tier firm in litigation, Gowling WLG is currently seeking a lawyer to work within its Advocacy Department in Ottawa on a one-year contract. The Advocacy department represents clients in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Courts and in domestic and international arbitrations. As the successful candidate, you will be joining the Gowling WLG team (partners Rick Dearden and Wendy Wagner) to provide legal advice, guidance and representation for both contentious and regulatory matters in relation to: (i) data privacy, information management, and media law (e.g. freedom of the press, defamation, access to information, personal information protection, anti-spam); (ii) international trade law (e.g. Canadian International Trade Tribunal matters, NAFTA/WTO disputes, antidumping/countervailing duties, customs, sanctions and export controls).
• 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Background in litigation, experience in one of the two specialty areas above an asset
