Legal Counsel

Ottawa is full of interesting companies that have a great story to tell - and a great future to be a part of. Our client is one of those companies, flying under the radar when it comes to buzz and press (which they're quite happy with by the way) but flying above the pack when it comes to revenue growth. Interested in hearing more? We thought so.

Our client has approached us exclusively (this position is not posted anywhere else) to help them find an in-house corporate lawyer. This is not a replacement position - it's a brand new role, carved out of an imminent need to support the CEO and COO with the current running of the business, and, their future acquisitions.

And who is our client? They are definitely a local success story that is going to grow in prominence and revenues as they continue along their path of organic growth and acquisitions. In the last ten years they've increased their revenues by a multiple of thirty (yes, 30). Further details on revenues and growth will be shared with candidates as appropriate. They are not in the software business, but, they definitely know that technology is their key to growth and profitability.

The ideal candidate is someone who is currently working as a lawyer, maybe in a law firm, maybe as a corporate lawyer but there's something missing. You know that there's no opportunity for career growth or experience if you stay where they are. You feel like you're capable of more and you want to be working with people who will recognize, appreciate, and reward that. Working with our client will give you exposure to many different facets of law including labour law, real estate law, mergers and acquisitions, etc. Ideally you've had some experience working through an acquisition or merger but it's not mandatory. What IS mandatory is attitude and aptitude - we want someone who will see the opportunity and work towards the end goal with a very competent O-level team. Someone who can pivot as necessary and definitely doesn't have tunnel vision. Someone who is excited by the prospect of participating in a Key Employee Trust program that is going to pay off handsomely at the end of their five-year plan.

There are of course perks and benefits in addition to a competitive salary and opportunity to participate in the Trust and these will be discussed with candidates as we move through the process. In terms of location, our client is located in the east so please bear that in mind when considering this opportunity.

Mandatory Requirements:

  1. Attitude, attitude, attitude...our client will rank this above all else...someone who drives towards the end goal and has an attitude of wanting things done yesterday
  2. 4 years+ experience working as a lawyer
  3. A license to practice law in Ontario
  4. A keen business mind

Nice To Have Experience:

  1. Mergers and acquisitions experience
  2. Experience working as a corporate lawyer where you've had to touch on all aspects of a business as it relates to the law
