MANAGER OF FINANCE AND BUSINESS OPERATIONS

LOW MURCHISON RADNOFF LLP, a 25-lawyer full-service law firm located in the west end of Ottawa, is currently seeking a CPA who will bring a depth of financial and business experience to the position of Manager of Finance and Business Operations.

Position Summary:

The Manager of Finance and Business Operations will oversee the financial aspects of the operation of the firm and will provide guidance and insight to the Partnership to assist the firm in achieving its business goals and initiatives.  The Manager will be responsible for the preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements, payroll, all accounting operations and any required reporting to the Law Society of Upper Canada.

The candidate will report to the Managing Partner and will serve on the firm’s Management Committee.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Provide business and financial analysis and advice on matters within the firm;
  2. Oversee the development of firm policies on financial and budgetary matters and monitor compliance;
  3. Coordinate the preparation of the annual budget;
  4. Implement policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of accounting and financial processes, systems and databases in compliance with the legislation and requirements of the Law Society of Upper Canada;
  5. Gather, consolidate and report on financial and operational data including monthly management reporting;
  6. Provide appropriate support to assist in identifying and achieving cost saving initiatives and business metrics; and
  7. Ad hoc analysis and tasks, as needed.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA or CA) and a minimum of five (5) years’ related experience.  The firm is looking for someone with an excellent knowledge of accounting principles, cash management and financial/ cost analysis techniques.  The Manager of Finance and Business Operations needs to possess the ability to work effectively with staff, Partners and the other members of the Accounting Department.  Work experience in a law firm would be an asset.
